So after last night I thought I would look over your blog....problem is I spent close to an hour on it! I say problem because I was only going to sit down for 15 mi. I guess that says your blog is pretty interesting even for a guy like me who makes his living not as a vo person, but who is always on stage anyway. Keep up the good work bro and remember you are one hell of a BCT!

Absolutely true, most people do better than they think and they are their own worst critics. I always just try to do my best and hopefully that's good enough. Thanks for posting. JC

Tom -- some really great tips here to help us get out of our self-imposed quagmires. It truly does happen to all of us at some point. It's so refreshing to see that you tackle these problems with a multi-pronged approach (body, mind, spirit AND voice)! Can't wait to hear the finished narration demo!

Tom,
this is a tough one. On the one hand, narrow casting to the "love" crowd is risky, it is a smaller field to reach; but going for the larger "like" group puts you in the pool with much greater odds of not being heard, or considered. My feeling is that actual contact, networking, is what gets your demo listened to. The rest is just reassurance to the agency/client that you are capable of doing the job. The "I know a guy who can nail this" is far more important than a killer edited demo. Many of your comments are right on the mark as far as producing a demo for your target audience and not to please other actors; but Steve Carelle did a 1 minute demo at our old studio that consisted of one piece. Go figure. You are very talented and whichever way you go, longer or shorter, it will be successful because you can deliver and that knowledge is out there. Larry Moran was a salesman first, making personal contacts and keeping up with new business networking. We all know actors who could talk rings around him, but he was the top dog.

Good advice, but to get that true Denis Leary attitude, you need to get your car towed first.
